Welcome to the Saskatoon Gun Dog Club!

The Saskatoon Gun Dog Club, founded in 1993, is based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, but draws members from much of the province. Our focus is to aid hunters in the training and testing of their versatile gun dogs. Flushing dog owners are also welcome to attend our training days, but the tests we offer require pointing. Owners of retriever breeds would be better served by the Saskatoon Retriever Club. From about April to September we try to hold one training day per month (see Events). In addition to the formal training days, many members train together on a regular basis and are happy to have others join in and help.

Please visit our Events Page for the events held in 2017. The events planned for 2018 will not be posted until about February, since they are scheduled at our Annual General Meeting.

The 2017 annual general meeting was held on Saturday, February 11 in the Cabela's meeting room in Saskatoon at 1 PM.

A VHDF-Canada test will be held on September 9-10, 2017 at Alvena.

Versatile Hunting Dog Breeds

Versatile Hunting Dog has typically been used to describe the group of breeds that point upland game birds, retrieve from land and water, and track wounded game. Some of the breeds included are: Brittany Spaniels, German Shorthaired-Pointer, German Wire-haired Pointer or Drahthaar, Griffon, Pudelpointer, Large Munsterlander, Small Munsterlander, Spinone, and Vizsla, Dogs of all of these breeds have participated in tests we've sponsored over the years.
